Wimbledon Village Business Association (WVBA) came to us looking for a new website, and sticking to the Wimbledon theme, they chose us local Wimbledonians to build it for them.
Their requirements? A stylish, easily navigational and useful directory website about Wimbledon Village and its businesses, complete with individual business pages. So how did we achieve it?
First and foremost, we knew the website needed a swanky interactive map that pin-pointed individual businesses and displayed all their important information. The WordPress theme we chose came with an in-built directory map which we customised to suit our client’s needs. Visitors are able to search, filter, drag, zoom and click on the map.
Secondly, filtering is heavily used on this website to make it easier to find the business you want. You can choose to view businesses by their category, and then filter by sub-category. For example, you can click on the “Bars & Restaurant” category and then filter through sub-categories such as Italian, Bakery and even Dog Friendly (very important for the dog loving population of Wimbledon).
The finishing touch was the images. The website relies heavily on images to create a modern and stylish look – images that WVBA didn’t initially have. We jumped on this immediately and took photos of every Wimbledon Village shop front whilst the client supplied some general images of the surrounding area for the gallery and homepage slider.
There are other touches too, such as the option for members to join the association and interactive bus maps. But probably most importantly, we spent a couple of hours training our clients how to use the fairly large and feature-rich website. Despite the website having LOADS of different elements, the backend of the website (where the magic happens) is fairly simple to navigate thanks to WordPress and the theme we chose.
